Wicked Sister Dance Theatre

Mission and History

Wicked Sister Dance Theatre was established in 2002 to support the creation, development and production of new choreography drawing from artistic forms as far ranging as aerial acrobatics, modern dance, Japanese butoh, visual design and theatre. The company has presented innovative danceworks at the Paramount Theater and Pioneer Place in St Cloud, and in productions in Minneapolis, Austin, TX, and Batavia, IL. WSDT has also performed at outdoor public spaces in the St Cloud area and in 2008, created a dance inspired by the natural landscape of the Stearns County Quarry Park.

WSDT has offered numerous free community classes, intensive workshops on “Crafting Performance on Physical Structures” for aspiring choreographers, and skill development workshops for WSDT company members and students in contact improvisation, butoh, advanced aerial arts and hand balancing.

The company has partnered with the Paramount Theater, the City of St Cloud, the Eastside Boys and Girls Club, the Central MN Community Foundation, the Central MN Arts Board and the Great River Regional Library system to develop dance programming, dance training, and access to dance events for members of our Central MN community.

15 Poses

by David DeBlieck
Like many dance lovers, I have been fascinated with the artistry, physique and personal biography of Vaslav Nijinsky, the legendary dancer and choreographer who reigned supreme in the early 20th century. Working on this solo has allowed me to embody 15 poses of Nijinsky’s based on photographs of the artist. My intention is to “stand on the shoulders” of this giant who has gone before me, while imagining and discovering my own interpretation of these iconic poses.

Rain Storm

Choreographed by David DeBlieck
Music by Will Van De Crommert
Performed by Catie Hill & David DeBlieck

Sections of this duet were originally performed in a larger dancework titled The Enigma of the Sky Above at the College of St Benedict in May 2011. Many Thanks to the dancers who helped generate this dance, and to St John’s University student composer Will Van De Crommert for sharing his original composition.
